Total Designer’s Crush: Anderson Design Group

I’m starting a new thing on my blog where I highlight innovative and cool advertising agencies around Nashville. After all, Music City is known for a lot more than the cowboy lifestyle. There are a ton of great agencies here, big and small that focus on a wide spectrum of specialty and full-service advertising. There is something really funny that everyone that already lives in Nashville will tell you the second you decide you want to start your life here. Everyone I’ve met from Nashville always says “Nashville is perfect because it’s a big city with a small town feel.” You know what? They are absolutely right. People seem to all know each other, they are genuinely friendly, and if you go out of your comfort zone, the food is enough to lull you back in.

So I was doing some searching and I came upon Anderson Design Agency. They are a full service advertising agency, but my favorite thing that they do is illustrations. Their promotional illustrations are especially brilliant. There is something subtly genius about their whimsical drawings and playful use of picture blended with typography. Here are some of the awesome stuff they do:

Amazing right? See? Nashville isn’t only about Jack’s BBQ.

I’m Graduating on Saturday/ Real World Right Meow/#hireme

This Saturday (Graduation) marks a huge accomplishment in my life, as well as some big opportunities and some terrifying feelings too. Where will I be living on Sunday? Well, I’m taking two weeks in Georgetown to organize myself and then I will be blindly moving to Nashville, Tennessee, my dream location, to land a job in the design and advertising field. I’ve played this part of my life over and over several times in my head, and each time I end up in the same place. I don’t care If I have to work three summer jobs at the same time to stay afloat and pay my rent. I have to get down to Nashville where the action is. I’m very confident in what my professors here at WKU have taught me in terms of technical and creative design. I’m also very confident in all that I’ve learned outside the classroom. I’ve had the opportunity to travel (great inspiration for designers), I’ve been able to lead my peers in the National Student Advertising Competition, and I’ve been blessed to be active on campus in organizations that taught me how to be a great team-member, leader, and a person to rely on.

What is next? I’m going to chase a dream I’ve had for a very long time, over half a decade. It’s scary and surreal, but I am more than capable of being successful in my field.

Why should you hire me? I know failure and I know success. The most ambitious people are usually ones who are willing to take a calculated risk, the ones who get up everyday and make change happen. In our industry there is always talk about the importance of having a “good eye,” but what about a belief in the importance of having a strong sense of art direction? I believe in myself, my work, and those around me. I enjoy submerging myself in what I do. I’m hungry for more work, more opportunities, travel, communication with others; working to achieve a higher level of design. I want to make positive change, and I can do that every single day, in every decision I make, though what I know and what I’ve been taught, in your business. You should hire me not simply because I am good at what I do, but because I believe in moving forward, learning, and living for my industry. It’s what makes me happy. Design drives me, and I’m not satisfied until I succeed. I’m vicious, ambitious, delicious. You should hire me because I’m worth it.
